MCSA - Microsoft Certified System Administrator - Messaging
It wasn't me!...........okay it was but you have no right to assume!!
need sumn like that on my pc
I notice that in all the posts nobody mentioned LAVASOFT AD-AWARE. I use it and SPYBOT in order to do general checks for spyware.
On another set of tools to "must have" - especially when you go around a bit - it would be the apps located at PORTABLEAPPS.COM Check out the site and see what's there that you like. PORTABLEAPPS is a decent site, the layout of the suite is similar to the U3 menu - if you're familiar with that. It's basically a set of applications you run portably from your thumb drive, without it having to be a U3 enabled drive. It's worth a check still IMO.
One of the tools mentioned previously was SPACE MONGER. While I agree it's a decent tool, I rather WINDIRSTAT.
So far I think the thread has most of the tools that I'd mention already, so I guess more will be added on. In order to preserve the sticky - make it easier to find all the apps and links, the mod may want to condense the info..........my thought still.
*EDIT*
I recall seeing some new breed of spyware/malware infecting some machines and causing stuff like the shut-down icon to go away and a host of other issues. The REMOVE RESTRICTIONS TOOL works nicely, but advertises itself a lot and asks you to buy to remove the nag. Using it free works decent though, except it wont clean the root of the problem unless you buy it. It will remove the listed restrictions though, and an update anti-virus should help in conjunction to keep the malware at bay.
*EDIT*
Adding SIW to the list. It's a neat piece of software that gives you a decent idea of what's under the hood without having to open the machine. Really nice for those warranty machines that you don't want to open. It also easily reads motherboard information on most boards so you can look up drivers easily.

Knowing the solution doesn't mean knowing the method. Yet answering correctly and regurgitation are considered "learning" and "knowledge".
well, the SIW is indeed a handy software, also I met up on one called ComboFix, it's a couple kb but very handy, I used it to remove a virus that kept regenerating or more like mirroring itself as a folder on the desktop, I tried dozens of antivirus, spyware, malware removal apps and they just couldn't do the job, plus ComboFix does a lot more
