    Default CW Mobile on the rise!

    Latest word is that since Hurricane Ivan CW Mobile has seen growth in mobile customer base of 40,000.

    Question: Why is this so ?
    Is it that Bigger was Not Better? as the adv promotes? What are your thoughts?

    It's not everything that is bigger is necessarily better, especially if the support systems don't get bigger and better as well

    First off, DIGICEL sux! The same stuff that Digicel used to use and defame C&W is the same thing they're doing. No network. Text can't go through...the works. Anybody with half a brain can see that C&W is a better ntwork. It's just the stigma of past service plans that's affecting them. C&W is cheaper but people are so brainwashed by Digicel that they can't see it. Got to give credit to Digicel's marketing team though....if C&W could get people like those...those guys would be on the first boat back to ole' Emerald ISLE!!!

    I agree with that totally. But, C&W has being doing a lot better recently with marketing. I also agree that the stigma that them teif still affecting them. Also, C&W had a sale with 50% off every single phone that they sell . When Digicel has a sale, its either on phones that hardly anybody wants (like the "sale" their having now on their 3 cheapest phones). Or it's like a few hundred dollars off. What's up with that?

    I also agree that C&W has done a lot to improve their network, since digicel entered the market. It's all about the competition still. C&W has a lot of capital and even if they are sometimes a step behind digicel in certain services, they make up for it with cheap rates. I get 20 free text msgs a month (and i text a lot) and its also 50c cheaper normally. I also use WAP a lot and since they only charge the $9 when u have it, then i just manage my putting in credit properly.

    My only real annoyances with C&W now are:
    $3 to check voicemail - which i dont do anyway
    no code to get balance like digicel's *120#

    So C&W has been doing a good job i believe, but i'm still looking forward to better things from them. 'Nuff said.

    I also agree with what was said, C and W right now is the better provider, but I must tell Digicel's marketing team in my opinion is the best in Jamaica. Those people know how to sell themselves. Look at even the Ivan incident, when everyone was coming down on Digicel for falling apart during the Hurricane (i even heard them being called DigiFell), what did they do, they made a contribution of I think 200 mil for a relief fund, I mean how brilliant is that, that was a direct strategy to take the focus somewhat off of their lack of performance during the hurricane.

    well said electrotechnic, i think that digicel should be put in the economic text books soon. cause they did an amazing job in coming into a country and dominating its mobile comunications market. they knew what they wanted it and they came and got it, they're satisfied now so, i guess they're taking a break from satifying the customers

    I believe that competition spurs high standards, lower prices and innovation.

    Digicel came in and took away over 50% of C&W's mobile customer base without even breathing hard. It was sad to watch the carnage.

    For a long time there was no sign of life from C&W. I had given them up for dead. Digicel had no competition so it slacked off a bit.

    Now that C&W has finally decided to make an effort, Digicel will have to improve its service in order to compete.

    The main beneficiary of all this will be the consumer.

    If we could just get some competition for JPS and NWC. We should then see fewer power outages and lower utility bills.

    I still remember when C&W would say that they did not make enough profit so they would have to raise telephone rates. This used to happen every two years or so. Since Digicel came in they have had to shut branches, sell vehicles and cut the staff in order to be profitable. If Digicel had not come in they would still be sucking us dry.

    I still remember C&W's "take it or leave it" attitude when you went into their customer service centers.

    I don't care which one is better. I just want competition.

    After Ivan I heard JPS say that they may have to raise electricity rates because they didn't insure their utility poles. Do you think if they had competition they could even think of doing such a foolish thing?

    If they had competition they would be looking to find ways to lower the rates so that everyone didn't switch over to the other power company.

    Over 25% (I don't remember the exact figure) of the water pumped by NWC is lost because they have not been properly maintaining their infrastructure.

    Consumers have to pay higher rates to compensate for all the water that is lost in transit. If they had competition, they would have fixed the infrastructure a long time ago or the other company would have have pushed them into bankruptcy.

    This monopoly business costs you and I too much money.
