Re:HHHEEEELLLLPPPPP!!!!!
I think most of you fellas are throwing the dude to the curve. Since he is already mostly familiar with the BASIC syntax, CKnight's suggestion is the best thus far. Visual Basic is the way to get back into it yute. Then you can work your way up from there. While .NET is not necessarily bad, Visual Basic is easier to get a hold of - both in terms of acquisition and learning curve.

Re:HHHEEEELLLLPPPPP!!!!!
Well let us think about this for a minute....
M$ will phase out .NET by next year.
.NET is just a framework for other languages such as VB and C#.
I personally wouldnt suggest you using .NET as a start.
Go with C if you want to have a great foundation (straight c)
Go with DELPHI if you want to create quick marketable apps. I remember creating my first program with DELPHI , n.a.m.pMP3
Why I called it that?

Re:HHHEEEELLLLPPPPP!!!!!
Here is my situation.
I did a fundamental course on JAVA, have VB6+Book so know somewhat about it and BASIC also. Anyway I just want to learn Programming so I can make my own apps... Out of languages that I have and don't, which is the best to learn first in my case?

Re:HHHEEEELLLLPPPPP!!!!!
Learn these languages in this order:
VB -> C/++/Java -> PHP
VB to get your feet wet, C/++/Java to introcude you to more advanced programming concepts and then PHP to introduce you to Web application development.

Re:HHHEEEELLLLPPPPP!!!!!
use ADO data connections and beware of large vb components (they are quickly make you installation reach 50 mgs) use the default stuff that come with VB. External added stuff might look cool but cause problems when you want to install on Win95 and other machines.
make sure use have the MSDN as well, the help is saves alot a time and headache.
