I've done a few searches for it but haven't found anything of use

Actually i found some info at:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project...t_Professional

But i generally don't trust wikipedia. Does anybody have another link?

Yeah I know at 3 least people that have obtained it. Its well received in JA and there are potentially substantial benefits as a result being PMP certified. As kilaj1 pointed out proven work experience in a managerial level is required before being allowed to sit the exam. Its not a certification for cert mongers.

    Not necessarily true...
    According to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project...t_Professional
Candidates who do not meet the minimum requirements for the PMP certification can apply for the Certified Associate in Project Management or CAPM examination.
So there is like a pre cert that u can take first if u don't have the years of experience.

I read that the av pay for someone with this cert is 70,000 usd. NICE!!!

Thanks for the correction. The fact that you either have to show proven years of experience or take a pre-cert before being allowed to sit the PMP exam shows that its the real deal. 70gs huh, that wouldn't be applicable out here but migration is always an option .

Project management is not something you can just "get a cert" in then expect to earn big money. The certification is there to validate your experience. If you are not experienced, you will not be a good project manager. That's why to even be allowed to sit the exam, your experience in project management has to be validated.

The links for official info on PMI's certs - http://www.pmi.org/CareerDevelopment...redential.aspx and http://www.pmi.org/CareerDevelopment...edentials.aspx

    For the CAPM
    • Applicants must have a minimum of a high school diploma or the global equivalent
    • 1,500 hours of work on a project team or 23 contact hours of project management education

    For the PMP
    • Applicants must have 35 hours of specific project management education.
    • With a Bachelor’s Degree (or the global equivalent): Applicants must have a minimum three years’ professional project management experience, during which 4,500 hours are spent leading and directing project tasks, up to eight years from the time of application.
    • Without a Bachelor’s Degree (or the global equivalent): Applicants must have a minimum five years’ professional project management experience, during which at least 7,500 hours are spent leading and directing project tasks, up to eight years from the time of application.

Also as a FYI, if anyone is interested in a PM cert but want options other than the CAPM or PMP they can consider the Project+

I know a few people with the PMP and this cert is no walk-in-the-park type of cert and that's why holders tend to get a premium salary if their total resume "package" is also attractive like what BCk is saying.

Oh, and you can always visit the local PMI chapter meetings where you can get more questions answered.

wow chris. thats some very useful information. thanks man.

I was looking at the job description for project manager 1 at my workplace and they require applicants to be PMP certified. My thing is that to become a project manager, u have to have the certificate but u cant do the cert unless u have experience. I guess u have to do the Project+ first then get the experience then do the PMP cert.... Just typing it is tiring.
