It wasn't me!...........okay it was but you have no right to assume!!
If I want I can wear shorts and slippers go to work, recently they started giving out uniform shirts which the people on the floor asked for, but I protested against... but I still can wear my shorts if I want... never done it though, always go with dockers, jenks, and oxford shirt, preferably half sleeve, but sometimes full sleeve...

I was reasoning with a yardie in HR at my workplace about the dresscode. She said that even though the dress code allows polo shirt and jeans, the managers notice you more and take you more seriously when you dress professionally. Its a psychological thing.
Praise Ye JAH
Dress Codes in the IT industry has been battled at for decades and will continue to do so. It boils down to a Company Culture. As Nester said, some places don't care how u look...it's how u perform. While others were u interact with customs have u dressed down. It's all culture.
For each situation u could rationalize something.
1. If u interact face to face regularly with customers then expect slacks (dress pants) and long/short sleeve shirt with (or without tie)
2. If u don't interact with customers regularly then jeans and polo shirt.
3. If u were in an environment with nuff physical activity then slacks and dress shirts don't cut it.
It's all culture...i can think of many reasons to wear tie and many reason not to wear tie. But u will find little badmind in companies where u have the It people wearing no tie wihle everybody else wear tie.
My company one set policy for everybody....tie. Women would have to wear whatever is equivalent.
However, we go on the road regularly and can get called anytime to go on road. So it makes no sense. We were told that clothing policy was being reviewed....it's almost a year now.
The trouble with learning from experience
is that the test comes first and
the lesson afterwards
LOL, I remember this Job I had, doing servicing of PC's in Suit with Jacket, setting up wifi antennae up at UWI on roof in sunhot with Jacket and Tie, Cabling an office inna Jacket and Tie....
So mi tek time, stop wear jacket, stop wear tie, sneak in a one jeans, till mi quite comfortable inna jeans and polo shirt, ignoring management rocks when u UberL337.
A friend of mine is Cisco EVERYTHING, nobody can't pay him, he wears overall's and slippers, cause him worth more than 90% of company and them can't touch him...lol

Do nothing which is of no use.
