This kinda of practice is done a lot on job listing sites such as monster.com, most of them turn out to be employment agencies...I've never and will never apply for one though. Its just too risky.

    heres something for you
Be careful when mailing resumes to anonymous companies

I recently read an account of an employee who, in response to an ad in the paper, sent a resume to an anonymous company via P.O. box. Unfortunately for him, that company happened to be the same one he was working for. His supervisor found out and he was fired.

Most company does this to Hide the fact that they are hireing.
Reason : Competitor /Client will be aware of the short staff competitor can use this information to get the upper hand while clients use this info become skeptic about the companies ability to handle whatever project issue

Definitely a possibility, I don't think people in JA have to worry too much about this...dont know too much job postings in JA that do it this way... worse might be "Earn 250USD per hour call to find out", personally I prefer to do my research on a company before I send out my resume
