No sir. This has nothing to do with me being a mod. If I stole software, I wouldn't be so vocal about it. I have posted that I have stolen software in the past, more than once on the forums. And I posted it in this thread.
So I know the excuses. I have been on the other side of the fence, so to speak. I used to walk the walk, talk the talk you guys do as well. But I realized I had a choice and that I didn't need to be a criminal! I could get great software without breaking the law and without paying a red cent for it.
Even the hackers/crackers put a legal notice inside the keygens and cracks they offer for download. They basically tell you that using cracks/keygens is illegal & WRONG and that if you like the program, support the programmers and BUY IT! Now if the persons doing the hacking realize this, why can't the regular joes like you guys, realize that?
Using the previous example I posted, the free food can taste JUST as good as the $5000 plate of food. And if you don't like it, majority of the time, you can throw some ketchup, salt, pepper, jerk, spice on the food and make it taste better. Or find someone who will do it for you.
With the $5000 plate of food, you get what you get.

Ramesh & AA i think all this back and forth about stealing software is just a matter of opinion. My view is this i wouldn't compare software with e.g hardware, cuz stealing that mango off your neighbours tree is something tangible and can be held in your hand while software isn't none of us can actually hold software. Now yes there are free software out there which many of us use but another thing is that the free alternatives in most cases aren't as good as the paid versions, they either lack the feature set, resourcefulness or user friendliness or whatever else.
I think one of the reasons ppl are so comfortable with this process is bcuz you can do it in the comfort of your home you just sit and download software that is widely and openly available on the internet through file sharing, its just like if i got a cd then went home and lent it to a friend or neighbour its just not the same as jumping a man fence kicking off him door and stick him up which im quite sure most of us will never ever do.
Now im not advocating illegal downloads or stealing as you guys put it but i just think that calling someone a criminal or referring to downloading software as stealing is just harsh in my opinion, now AA i know your especially very passionate about software being that your a developer and all but thats just my 3 cents
The other issue of software being expensive i wouldn't even classify as a claim bcuz most of us will save for months on end and dig deep in our pockets to purchase that new video card or processor or some piece of hardware costing hundreds of dollars while the software we download cost like 50 bucks but then again its still not tangible so i guess the comfort lies in what you can hold in your hands but still i dont classify the cost of software as a claim

What do you mean steal software? Everything is found on the net for us to use. I wouldn't regard it as stealing.
Stealing mean taking away....lets say someone have a software on his or her desk and we take it without their intention
RAZ stealing has nothing to do with what you can hold or what you cannot hold thats a weak argument. you know better than that. what if a man logged into your bank account online and tranferred all your money to his account would you consider that stealing? sure you would! but regrading you theory " HE DIDNT PHYSICALLY TOUCH YOUR MONEY!: funny thing the man a ask bout a free antivirus and look where the discussion end up!

well actually Duster if a man logs into my bank account you have to take a few things into consideration
1. my account is not widely or openly available on the internet, so he would be hacking not just downloading
2. at the end of the day he can transfer that digital money to his bank account and withdraw my tangible money from an atm to spend (stealing)
so my argument still stands that software in itself is not tangible bcuz even if its on a cd ur only holding the physical disk but yeah your right that we're getting off track with this discussion

How can stealing software be a matter of opinion? If you take and use the software that the developer/author has asked you to pay for, how does yours or mine or anyone else's opinion matter in that regards?
And it is called stealing. It is stealing of a persons intellectual property.
If you would like to call it something less harsher, software piracy is one term or infringing on the licenses stipulated by the EULA that comes with the software.
Whatever the legal terms may be, it's illegal and it's wrong.
What other reasons are there that people use to downplay the reality that what they are doing is wrong?
