I hereby apply to for the Web UI Developer position that had been advertised on monster.com, on January 25, 2008.

Over the past 3 years I have extended my working programming and Web design and development knowledge by working on various projects with many small to large companies. This included creating and maintaining UI standards, sharing and reviewing CSS and JS standards, working on CSS and JS project items, DHTML, C#, SQL, and flash development with Flash/Actionscript scripting, large scale internet and web portals.

Yeah I know...was at work was just a rush thing...bin editing as I go...its just to get an idea, i went though my cover letter for days b4I started using it...sent it to a few friends as well to have them proof it. Cant find mine now (at work) or I would just post that one.

But you know the top part I copied from your post

the part where it says "working programming and Web design and development" I know that this was incorrect wording. not sure how the Web design and development part goes...thought it was one thing, through out the "working"....Ill rewrite it in a sec...boss giving me the evil eye now.

When I first started job hunting, I had the "Career Objective" thing and all that. As time passed, I dropped those things. No personal information on there except contact info, work experience, qualifications, and interests.

Definitely include information about where you worked and the dates you worked there. Definitely include the responsibilities you had, as well as your major accomplishments and skills. Also definitely include any training, certification or degrees you have gotten. Also pay attention to formatting. Don't let it look cluttered, or untidy. It must be orderly, neat and it must attract attention. The layout must be such that it looks interesting. That plus the content will make for a winning resume.

Also, tailor your resume to suit the job you are seeking. Different jobs call for focus on different things in a resume. A management position will call for more focus on how you took responsibility for things, than how good you are with a technical tool.

We still put the hobbies and the marital status but the religion is long gone. I just think it's too personal.

I mean, what does your religion have to do with the quality of your work anyway.

Personal information like marital status, and religion should not be on
your resume, unless the requirements states that.
eg a company needs a seven day adventist, who is married.

How are Hobbies relevant? I think if u leave that out in the interviews if they ask what you do in your spare time thats when you would tell them. And they do usually ask this.

For IT its easy to tell them something. For me I told them I am currently working on setting up a low cost small business environment, which includes setup file servers, PBX system, AD, and firewall.

Marital status is completely irrelevant on a resume, if they want to know that they can ask in the interview. Think about it, what effect will you being married have on a job? unless your a male stripper and them no want u wife to start nothing at them place

    MS word or net?

I use to go on the net for cover letters, but a friend of mine showed me her cover letter and it was a perfect structure. never had to change it more than once, apart from updating the skills.

Same here I had Goal on mine, which I would have to change to suit each job...not that my goals change often it just sounded better on the resume
