Here is a classic example of preparing for the finals. It is now quite obvious to me, that it's not a matter that Asafa didn't run well, but the amount of power that he would require to overcome the Americans simply never existed. So those people on TVJ are just wasting the AC power in the studio chatting nonsense, desperately trying to rationalise why he lost out. It's simple:

Look at Gatlin and Crawford powering out of the pack near the middle of the race. Asafa was carrying the same power right throughout. When they hit terminal velocity, Gatlin's legs are being lifted higher than the rest. He's giving himself far more push and momentum than the rest of the guys. But that's not all there is to this trick.

In all the qualifying heats before, Gatlin didn't show such raw use of force. In fact, I don't recall seeing him much aside from coming in at the usual second place etc (and maybe a few first place positions). The Americans had a strategy. Only use enough power to qualify and get to the finals. At the finals, burn every molecule of glucose like there was no tomorrow. There's nothing to loose, so burn tarmac till the stadium's insurance company feels it.

Asafa Powell was outpowered. The Americans played their cards right and won the game. The psychological aspect of the race where they were show-boating with each other and psyching themselves up on made matters worse for everyone else. Asafa ran a damn good race. But it's clear the other men had more power when it mattered the most. But I still congratulate Asafa Powell. It was still under 10. A pretty damn Good job if I do say so myself. If West Indies was trying 1 tenth as hard, I wouldn't cuss them a third as often.

I only hope those Americans don't get tested positive for drugs (they were doing some mind boggling, SERIOUS times!!!) cuz that kind of embarassment would probably cause someone to get a heart failure. And it might not be on the American team.
