From wat I see going on, the problem could lie in one of the two areas:
    1. Software, drivers need to be reinstalled, etc, normally system restore would work to fix this error, or if its a problem with windows, u could use the XP install cd and do a repair of the windows directory.

    2. Hardware, if this is the case, then ur royally screwed, especially if the system does not have international support. The hardware problem wold range from bad cable within the system to simply a bad drive itself that needs to be replaced.

    Neways yute, good luck

When I get home I will try the system restore option and hopes that fixes the problem.
........After all this talk, at nights we still Click "Start" to "Shutdown" and still own a Digicel phone.

you know what i think thats what the system restore fixed. all it did was go back to the initial drivers for the soundcard or if the drivers where currupted at (an imaginary point B) the restore took it back to point A where it was working fine.

I'm guessing you need to get the power connector for the CD-ROM drive or the drive itself checked out.

But it has power, remember that the cd spins for about 5 seconds and the light is blinking on the cdrom, but after the 5 seconds it just stays on.

that sounds to me like the drive is not reading the CD's then. Check the lens, and or the connectors.

Ahh, the keyword here is 5 secs (I think). The fact that the drive spins for 5 secs each time might mean you have a power prob.
