Well my charges depend on the customer they are broken down in specific groups for me but the lowest charge is $1,000 and thats once i have to leave my house if they bring it to my office and its a simple driver issue ill charge a 500 and call it a day

as for how you market your company thats entirely up to you, if you have been doing this as long as i have and its your sole means of income you have to charge for what YOU feel your time is worth i kno friends of mine who charge for time spent on the phone (1hr - $5000 )

but for me i dont mind free tech support as long as i dont have to stop what im doing

As for websites i dont charge less than 500 us dollars but that includes advertising for the first 60 days and i dont usually collect until the customer is happy with the hits for their site

Ecommerce sites are no less than 1500 us dollars ( and ive done quite a few ) and still includes advertising for 60 days

As for networking its 3000 and hr for the first 3 hrs then 1500 for each after that if its a customer that can refer me to another job ill cut them a deal

I usually dont walk with a receipt book or even invoice ill email all my invoices and ill accept bank transfers or cheques to make it easier for my clients and i should be getting a debit/ credit card machine soon

I am also a consultant for anyone wishing to take their business to the next level ( call or email for info eniamrej227@hotmail.com 363-9614 )

I provide computer parts, stationery, office furniture, office supplies, electronics
I services printers, fax machines, computers,
    I repair electronics, tvs
I Install networks, wired and wireless, surveillance cameras, intercom systems, air conditioning units

Office located @ 2b ken hill drive but i work mainly from home, available by phone 24hrs a day

Good thread ppl. I've always wanted to know this kind of thing. US prices kinda different though. What I tend to do is go to a site like Geeksquad, firedogs etc and get a printout of their prices and then subtract a little from it to what I would do a job for. But it depends on the person still. My prices right now are underpriced, so new year new prices. I know I may loose a few clients but so it go sometimes.

Thanks for the valuable feedback. It's info. like this I want to know. The prices for the web sites doesn't sound bad at all. I guess it all depends on how much you can generate a year that makes them worthwhile.

How about update and editing charges? I know companies willing to pay out a good sum to keep their websites current.

Speaking of website design; I know a graphic designer who charges $20,000 JA per page but I think he has any clients as far as I know.

    Default Value Based pricing

All this thing about pricing per-hour and per-day is at least to say a naieve appraoch to business. I may seem un-conventional but if you ask REAL consultants who work on REAL projects; the best way to price is using "value based pricing". This is the method where you and the client asess the project needs, be it large or small and then based on the amount of value that the customer will be recieving then you price your service accordingly.
Per hour pricing scales horribly, you get far less than you deserve for large projects and you cheat your customers on the smaller ones.
I know someone who charged a lady $1500 to fix her "mouse problem" by spending 20 seconds scraping off the lint. Then there is the other extreme where you charge a customer an hourly rate but expenses and overhead kill the profit.

Well as to address the comment about pricing per hr its not something that you always stick by but its for those ppl who thinks that if u spend 15 mins on a job then you dont deserve anything when you spent 45 mins in your car to get there, alot people dont assess the actual expenses that attributes to their business especially service based business.

I'm sure evryone here uses their discretion

As for updating websites i usually charge a maintenance fee for the yr but its for ppl who cant maintain the sites themselves

as for the charging 1500 for scraping off a mouse i have one comment

maybe it was alot of lint (lol)

but sometimes things are what they seem i go on jobs sometimes and spend an hr or two and dont charge a dime but again it comes to discretion of the technician you charge cuz u dont want ppl to take advantage of your services ive had calls about problems such as " computer not booting up" and when i get there it turns out someone fooled around with the switch behind the computer, even when i specifically asked to check behind the computer

so i ask you what do i do then after i drove and burned out my valuable 67 dollars a litre gas ( for those who buy 87 )

its a service business and you not only charge for your work you charge for your time REMEMBER that!

LOL same thing happened to me b4 I became a techi...but like i said b4 it would depend on the client.medium to large business I would do hourly, small business and home users flats rate. Only exception is if the small business have a big project...network cabling for the entire building for example, even if they only have 10PCs thats still a lot of time.
