i think just wait a few weeks, and the 3rd party manufacturers will be developing their own batteries and some technicians will find a work-around battery solution. most ppl wont pay Apple for a new battery, plus the shipping, plus the rental fee for a loaner iPhone.

Apple has got to be joking with these prices. Doesn't make sense paying $80 for a replacement battery after you just shelled out almost $600 for the phone. I will definitely be sticking to my Nokia e61i, luv it and the battery is way cheaper

Why is this so such a surprise for everyone, clearly you all aren't aware of the Apple's prices for iPod battery replacement. The iPod battery is also non-user replaceable and it seems that people have forgotten that the iPhone is still a iPod at heart.
Apple will replace your iPod for a service fee of $59, plus $6.95 shipping

It is a rip off! I could buy 15 replacements for my phone for the price of one iPhone battery.

ah, I remember the C333 that was my first internet connection, when the battery died the phone was screwed. The iPhone battery replacement is way over priced and Apple should allow 1-2 free replacements before charging for it.
