    Default SAPdb

While reading the /. discussion on Mysql4.0, I was shocked to realize that SAPdb , on of the largest and powerful DBMS available is now GPL'd and downable from sapdb.org.
If you ever needed something that is slightly (arguable) less powerful than Oracle but free for commercial use , try this.

The GPL bug seems to be contagious What will be the implications with other GPL dbs like MySQL?

I don't know (care) about what it means for mysql however I don't think that it will have much effect on postgresql since the system requirements of postgresql are lower and hence , if deploying for small to (lower) mid-level projects you may choose postgresql and because it supports ANSI(92)Standard complient SQL (99 is incomplete) when your project moves/grows to an enterprise level migration to SAPdb is *easier*.
SAPdb is Just to big to run on a small system , i would save it for systems needing 4+ CPUs and 4GB+ RAM.
Time to tell my boss to drop Oracle from the budget :-)
