    Firewalls aren't just for networks, they're for individual hosts too eg. ZoneAlarm. Firewalls can also operate at the application level too eg. content filters and application proxies.

    like i said this one was easy, but good, everyone got it right.

    Answer: D - It protects one network from another by acting as an intermediary system.

    Explaination: The main purpose of a firewall is to protect a private network from a public network (such as the internet).

    A - Although this can be a function of few firewalls, this is more of the responsibility of the gateway.
    B - This describes the function of a proxy (or proxy cache) server.
    C - This describes the primary function of a DNS.
