I see it simply as a screening process. HR gets hundreds of applications on a monthly basis, maybe even on a daily basis if you are google. how better to reduce the amount of applicants than to ask for ridiculous requirements. By taking this route, HR also benefits, not only in that they will have less "garbage" to go through but they will most likely get most qualified applicants.

Mi personally nuh care still. mi will send in mi garbage and si wah can gwaan fi mi cuz this job looking thing is like lotto. You kyaan win unless you buy a ticket (send a resume) and if u do win, is by luck (especially since so many qualified people are out there)

For an HR department to take that approach indicates to me that they really don't know what they are doing. Others will do as you have said - apply because they want a job and not necessarily because they meet the criteria. So putting ridiculous criteria doesn't help the HR department discern which applicants are suitable or not, if everybody is going to respond regardless.

Also, the really good candidates are less likely to apply, since they would likely have picked up whoever posted the ad doesn't have a clue, and would likely be a nightmare to work with.

Agreed 100% the bad thing is alot of HR peps don't really know what to look for so they just ask for all kind of stuffs like CCNA and network+, BSC in MIS and MCSE and A+ what the hell is this position?
Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something. Live for computers or else they will live for you.
