You're just so forgetful! You need to hire your own secretary, so she can keep your appointments for you.

But why not set an alarm on your phone? Or on your computer? Even google calendar can send you an email on days you want to be reminded about an event.

In time you will see that learning Linux will make you a better Windows administrator. We went into quite a bit of detail about Windows DNS and Active Directory. I hope you now understand DNS on Windows a lot better than you did before.

Networking is networking. Doesn't matter if you are using Linux or Windows. Once they use the same protocols, we can integrate them.
Yes i do understand DNS some what better now and i'm looking to get a hard or soft copy of the DNS and BIND book.

i installed the Kubuntu distro that was handed out at the meeting but am having a slight problem. i installed in vmware and trying to install vmware tools so i can get the screen displayed properly but when i run the install it aborts and say i should run the app again as super user. how do i accomplish this? also i notice that when installing the distro it doesnt ask for a password for the root account like what i have experienced installing fedora. so now i'm not able to log in as root.

It would be a good idea to start this as another post.

At home I have a small network. I keep files on my Linux server. I keep email, spreadsheets and Word documents on the hard drive of my Windows 2000 workstation.

Bacula is loaded on the Linux domain controller and is configured to use a DDS 3 tape drive. Each Saturday evening, Bacula automatically backs up the data on the Linux server and the files on my Windows 2000 workstation.

I also use it at work to backup the domain controller. I have configured it to send me an email at home at the end of each backup. That way I can know if the backup went through or if it failed because the tape is full.
I've got my eye set on backupPC at the moment as I find it easier to setup.

However this tutorial has got me interested in it again.

Try using sudo in Konsole...The distro's site may be able to give you the root password IF there is one.

It looks useful. My only concern is that it does not appear to backup to tape. At any rate, I have not seen a way to do so.

BackupPC stores the backups in /var/lib/backuppc, so I've made that an extra partition of about 90 GB on the BackupPC server. It should be noted that this is still very small, especially if you want to back up lots of machines, so bigger is better.

so what about march meeting? no big buzz over dhcp? come on guys, if you ever knew what an oppurtunity it is, compared to courses you have to pay for etc. learning dns and dhcp will help with other courses as well like ccna or ccnp and understanding how things work.
