A Million PS3s: PS3 Launch Outsells Xbox 360 Launch

The data is rolling in now guys, the ps3 is definitely gonna outsell the xbox 360

Sony today announced that they have sold 1 million Playstation 3s in North America since the launch of the console six weeks ago.

That makes the Playstation 3 the fastest selling home console Sony has ever launched.

Microsoft sold 600,000 of their Xbox 360s from their November launch to the second week in January.

Sony and M$ are a bunch of ****ing liars. When they says sold they mean sold to retail ( Went from warehouse to Toys R' Us), not sold through as in Warehouse - Toys R' Us - Nestersan.

good point but suppose all 3 companies report sales data that way, wouldn't it be a fair comparison?

NO, Nintendo's sales figures are always sold through, which is why Sony says rubbish like: "PSP sold 2 million nearly same as Nintendo DS's 2.3 million", when in truth, Stores have 2 million (Sold about 1.1 million) and Nintendo's customers have 2.3 million DS's. BIG DIFFERENCE.

You have to use a business gaming site, that uses actual compiled sales data from retail to get accurate sales figures from Sony and M$.

Square Enix head honcho said the system with the biggest installed base will get the biggest RPG in Japan (NOT FF NEWBIES, but Dragon Quest). He didn't choose PS1 or PS2 or PS3 or PSP or Gamecube or GBA or XBOX or XBOX-360.

The Nintendo DS is getting it.

Dragon Quest is so big when it is released Japan lock, Gov't have to tell stores not to launch new versions during work/school hours. Square before merger had to make sure that it was not launching any games when Dragon Quest coming out so them sales don't flop.

If Sony's Marketing dept is to be believed, why isn't PSP or PS2 Getting it ?

However, last week's NPD sales report showed sales of 490,700 units for the period, with 687,300 units sold since its launch in November, a shortfall analysts have recently referred to as 'troubling.'

Combined with Japanese sales of 470,000, according to Enterbrain figures cited by the Marketwatch report global sales have apparently fallen short of Sony's prior goal of 2 million consoles, though the CES keynote showed Sony continuing to promise 6 million consoles sold worldwide by the end of March 2007.

Shipping a million from selling a million is two different thing..Since those enroute would not have been in homes at the end of the year 2006.

i agree that sony tends to inflate their sales figures but we are dealing with 2 separate time periods here.

the link that maf posted was from launch to the end of December. thelink that i posted was to "the second week of January."

maybe Sony sold another 313000 units over the last 2 weeks.
