The StarTech column seeks to give information to the public and as such the writer is obligated to his reader to give a balance account of whatever topic he is writing about, and that article was itself misleading and did not reflect the true nature of the quality of service the company is providing!

After reading your response Torontonian i took the liberty to email the writer of the article. The following make intreasting reading.

I am profoundly sorry for that, I was warned about it!
At the time of the article, only information I had was
    from Gotel (themselve).

I will infact do a follow article up on Gotel. Since
the article, I have disconnected the Gotel Internet
service because of poor service. However I am working
with telephone service (no CW Jamaica where I live),
which seems to work for now, there are still issues
    with the network.

Thanks for your remarks. Please do not hesitate to
    send your comments to me.

    -----------------------------------------

    I rest my case.

Good work Detective DarkAngel... that is actually a disappointing bit of journalism. I will definitely have a hard time listening to any opinion-based information form that guy (not that I used to read those articles before).

He actually said: "Now in my honest opinion I do believe that this company has the potential to provide good telephone and Internet service to Jamaica. " I wonder what was his basis for saying that. Sounded like he may have done a one or two test. All-in-all, maybe he's not really a techie. If he doesn't balance off his article somehow with a follow-up that'd b really bad journalism, maybe he was trying to meet a deadline.

Anyway, I'm not knocking GoTel, cause I've got it and I LOVE it, but I believe the "Early-Adopters" have a responsibility to the others, to let them have a broad picture.

ohhhh dammmmmn ... don't tell me he took the company's profile or "business plan" and reproduced that as an independent opinion. daaamnnnn. takes a "brave" person to shout something out loud in public without actually being sure of or knowing the facts about which he/she is shouting.

Hey Spaz, when I last spoke with someone at Gotel they were saying that the current waiting period is about 6 weeks. Your application should be at or near the top of the waiting list by now. Keep us up-to-date on your experiences with them
