There is a difference between prefering the command line (ie. must have it, can't do anything else without it) and finding the command line a necessity to accomplish some tasks not easily accomplished with the GUI. I think that what most persons are saying is the same as the latter, ie. they often times find command lines useful.
I vaguely remember one Windows/DOS case when I couldn't access a file because the extension that it had was associated with a different application eg filename.txt.zip.wri (or something like this) and for the likes of me at the time I couldn't get rid of the wrong exts. I had to use DOS to rename it with success.
