how to make adsl modem work on knoppix

how do i make my adsl modem work on knoppix using the usb port? it finds the modem but when it tries to comunicate with it, it gets an error how can i resolve this without gettin an ethernet card.

Maybe you should have been a bit more specific as to the error you are getting.

ps. ethernet cards are dirt cheap these days..

Sorry, I scanned 1 interface, but the access concentrator of your provider did not respond, please check you network and modem cables. Another reason for the scan failure may also be another running pppoe process which controls the modem.

thats the error i get on knoppix, and it's version 4.

USB and Linux is usually a hit or miss. If the peripheral is something common eg. mouse, keyboard, digital camera, memory stick etc. Linux usually detects it will no problems. However something exotic like a USB ADSL modem will require drivers. Its unlikely that Thompson would have written them so you may have to do some serious searching on other forums to find out if/how other people got it work. Good luck and post your results here. I hope your modem also has an ethernet port so you won't have to buy another modem just to get internet accesss in Knoppix.

i give up lol, i'll just a buy a ethernet card, this is too much hassle. yeah it got both usb and ethernet.
