Default General Internet Connectivity Issues (across ISP's)

Has anyone else spotted this? Users on both flow and cwjamaica (moreso CWJ) have been since this morning it seems, having problems connecting to, or maintaining connections to servers. Overally browsing speed is also slow. Take a look at these speeds from our location (our customers are having the same problem and CWJ has not yet, sent out an advisory.. as usual):

    1) Pinging google.com [64.233.167.99] with 32 bytes of data:

    Reply from 64.233.167.99: bytes=32 time=750ms TTL=238
    Reply from 64.233.167.99: bytes=32 time=748ms TTL=238
    Reply from 64.233.167.99: bytes=32 time=874ms TTL=238
    Reply from 64.233.167.99: bytes=32 time=835ms TTL=238

    Ping statistics for 64.233.167.99:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 748ms, Maximum = 874ms, Average = 801ms

    2) Pinging yahoo.com [216.109.112.135] with 32 bytes of data:

    Reply from 216.109.112.135: bytes=32 time=893ms TTL=47
    Reply from 216.109.112.135: bytes=32 time=829ms TTL=47
    Request timed out.
    Reply from 216.109.112.135: bytes=32 time=922ms TTL=47

    Ping statistics for 216.109.112.135:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 3, Lost = 1 (25% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 829ms, Maximum = 922ms, Average = 881ms

    3) On further investigation, i did a tracert:

    Trace complete.

As much as I am not a fan of CWJ's ADSL offering, this problem seems to be above and beyond them. I'd love it if some more fortunate Flow customers could do the same tests and post here. Our customers (hosting) are complaining of course, of slow connection speeds to our servers and, it's difficult to explain, especially to users who are not tech-savvvy in the least (I'm only partially so), that there is clearly something larger at work now, and since this morning.

By the way, a ping of yahoo.com by way of dnsstuff.com (outside of Jamaica) returns this rather good result:

    Pinging www.yahoo.com [209.191.93.52]:

    Ping #1: Got reply from 209.191.93.52 in 51ms [TTL=57]
    Ping #2: Got reply from 209.191.93.52 in 62ms [TTL=57]
    Ping #3: Got reply from 209.191.93.52 in 77ms [TTL=57]
    Ping #4: Got reply from 209.191.93.52 in 47ms [TTL=57]

    Variation: 30ms (+/- 50%)

    Shortest Time: 47ms
    Average: 59ms
    Longest Time: 77ms

    Done pinging www.yahoo.com!

The problem is not bigger than them, they are just too dam lazy to fix the problem. I am sure that you techies here must have seen the complain that digicel people are having. I tried explaining that this was going to happen but as normal you techies think i am carzy.

C&W now buys bandwidth from flow(will be doing it untill there 2 terrabit pipe is here next year then the whole place done . anyways digi takes bandwith from c&W as well. Now to get to the problem about 2 weeks ago i found out that the net was not slow because too much persons were on it( digi) figured that out because my download was still good. But i had problems opeing pages like yahoo uses stuffs like msn messenger, yahoo messenger takes forever to send a message, so i studied the problem and found out that it's a DNS problem from flow.

I am now back to normal with my internet because i am now using another DNS. i change to one in trinidad and have one in the states as backup and all has been well with me so far.

How did you find out it was a problem with their DNS?

I have the flickering lights problem too, it takes 30-45 minutes to stabalize. I say stabalize becuase it will connect for 5 seconds and then reboot over and over again.

CyVan i had to ran a few testes using the DNS of my ISP which i notice that some websites kept timing out, so i search around for a few DNS from bigger ISP's in other countries and when i tried them my messenger worked and i was able to check my yahoo mail with (www.mail.yahoo.com and http://yahoo.com/m1/r.......

Anyways i saw a post today with some guy saying he got flow and he was having problems accessing his mails on his school site so he changed his DNS as well and now he is good to go. So that should confirms what i am saying.

    Thumbs down

I've been having difficulty all weekend, specifically when attempting to send email. Our mail server is up and running beautifully, but the few thousand individual email users that we host may very well end up with trouble come Monday morning, again, if this problem continues. Take a look at how nasty this is:

    Tracing route to mail.chrysalishosting.com [72.3.240.90]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

Sure, our email gets through, but it takes a while for the mail client to establish an initial connection to the server, and authenticate.... as would be expected given the mess above.

Does anyone know also if this problem is related to the fact that for the past 2-3 weeks i've been having hell making cell calls via my CWJ phone because the "circuits are busy" or because of "congestion"??

    This is most annoying.
