Best Real Time Strategy Game

I’ve been looking on the net for the best Strategy game, other then the obvious Command and conquer series. The game does not have to be based on any particular time period, although I tend to like the ones set in the medieval age(or thereabout).

I am looking at a new one called Against Rome and Lord of the Realms 3. Both look very impressive. Both could replace the Age of Empires Series.

But I want the games of TechJamaica to recommend one. So the questions are:

What do you thing is the best Real Time Strategy Game, past and present.
What do you like about that particular game(s)
How would you rate it to Command and Conquer or Age of Empires?

I really enjoyed Battle Realms. Warcraft 3 borrowed a lot from this game.

bin there...played that...moved on... ;D got this long ago kinda got tired of it after a while :-\. dont realy like war craft too much "fantasy". :

was good for a while but when I got it it was FULL of bugs, even without them i got a bit tired of it, the sound effects mostly :
