Default How about a robotics competition!

I am busy getting some personal projects going, but in the meantime if anyone is bored for the rest of the summer and is interested in robotics then they can look at Microsoft Robotics Studio.

I proposed that you bored guys build robots from virtual parts like motors and sensors, then code the actions of the robot. You can code your robots to play a game like American football, and see who makes the best robot.

For now, I would not be competing, but later on, when I have the time, I can try to use this tool to make my own kick butt robot, and compete with some of your robots.

Frankly I have not read this through but I have an idea of what it is. currently in the process of downloading and installing. I have a late version of DirectX so I could test it out at a later time.

    Microsoft Robotics Studio Simulation Overview

Microsoft Robotics Studio targets a wide audience in an attempt to accelerate robotics development and adoption. An important part of the offering is the simulation runtime. It was immediately obvious that PC and Console gaming has paved the way when it comes to affordable, widely usable, robotics simulation. Games rely on photo-realistic visualizations with advanced physics simulation running within real time constraints. This was a perfect starting point for our effort.

We have designed the simulation runtime so it can be used in a variety of advanced scenarios with high demands for fidelity, visualization, scaling. At the same time a novice user can use simulation with little to no coding experience and develop in a game-like environment develop interesting applications. Our integration of the Ageia Technologies PhysX engine enables us to leverage a very strong physics simulation product that is mature and constantly evolving towards features that will be invaluable to robotics. The rendering engine is based on managed DirectX.

It remembers me mindstorms lego. In few month I will have time to test this. It seems interesting.
