Even if u get the newest version of Ubuntu, you going to have to run update as soon as you finish installing it - Just like windows
I not saying its HORRID, i have to highlight it cause some persons are under the impression that is only Windows have these types of problems.
I posted articles that should that Windows server were still far ahead of Linux. If u check the last article, it will show how Linux is 12.2% while Windows is 37.1%
FYI ... the majority of the ubuntu 6.x-LTS updates are version bumps to prepare for the new version of ubuntu slated 4 months from now. As for the security updates ... those are a given and happn rapidly because ubuntu shares development with debian ergo ... 2 different distros colaborating are bound to produce quite a few sec-updates
