Default "Unbreakable Codes "Quantum Key Distribution System

The Observer had an article on "unbreakable codes" so I looked it up an this is the company that offers it .. MagiQ Technologies.

An artilce - Quantum Key Distribution System

In theory and practice, Navajo is not much different from most existing public key cryptosystems. It encodes the encryption keys, performs the key exchange, encrypts the message and then sends it to the recipient. The difference is in the manner in which the key is encoded and distributed to the recipient.

One other key difference in Navajo is its key regeneration rate. In practice, many commercial cryptosystems are set to generate new keys infrequently, if ever. This can lead to a situation where an attacker can read supposedly secure communications ad infinitum if he or she is able to compromise the encryption key. Instead, MagiQ's system refreshes its keys continuously.
Pricing for Navajo starts at $50,000 per endpoint.

I wish I had some major $$$ to invest in them...they're gonna make some major $$$ when they go IPO. They've got customers lined up just salivating for that technology.

Or simply break through the "Windows" ;D

Should there be one that is ;D

    Alright...that window crack was funny
But it's gonna be tough for anyone to compromise a system which transmit encryption keys on photons via fibre optic cable.

    - It tough to eavesdrop over fibre optic cable (most physically secure network
    transmission media).
    - If someone did manage to read the key from off the photon, it would change the
photon and indicate to the recipient that the key was tampered with (built in integrity
checking due to the nature of quantum physics).
    - The quantum system refreshes it's keys continuously, so even if 1 key is compromised,
it would not be valid for very long.

Those guys are gonna make a bag of money $$$$

there is something decidely fishy about the claims.
scientifically lets have a look k....
how the hell do you encode a photon? you can decide the kinda photon, like polarity etc but to encode it with some form of key?
so it must be more to do with wave packets, surely.
i notice they have a distance restriction, obviously over this, the key get corrupt, prolly by absorption or something similar. so they have to use repeater stations.
well why not build a repeater on the route? tap some of the packets off and decode that.
most ppl think cryptography is difficult, the way it works is very simple.
the decoders work by looking for patterns, after all its language.
like the most used letter is 'e'....look for the symbols that could repesent 'e' and you are getting there already. you wouldnt need to break the key, just the message. the difficulty comes in knowing which language you are using. the japanese couldnt break the american code because it was in the red american indian navajo tongue.
notice their system is called navajo...... clue? ;D
and at $50000 a point for instalation, who is gonna buy this?

Default Quantum Cryptography gets a Speed Boost

Quantum crypto gets a speed boost
    6 May 2004

NIST scientists transfer a quantum key made of single photons at a rate of 1Mbps.

A team of US scientists from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Colorado and Acadia Optronics, Maryland, claims to have built the world’s fastest quantum cryptography system (Optics Express 12 9).

Its 730 m free-space link, which uses a stream of single photons to transfer a secret encryption key, offers a key transfer rate of 1Mbps -- about 100 times faster than previously demonstrations. NIST says that the increase in speed could potentially make quantum cryptography practical for applications such as streaming encrypted video or communications across large networks.

Quantum key distribution (QKD) has recently emerged as an attractive technique to create completely secure communication links between banks and military bases and the first commercial systems are now starting to appear.

hahahaha....do you know the kinda cooling required to capture a single photon in a device......quantum noise and thermal noise alone makes it impractical....this is just not wired right....believe....
