Default 32 bit vs 64 bit Windows 7, which to get

What are the advantages and disadvantages of getting one over the other? I wanna buy windows 7 but am unsure of whether to get 32 bit or 64 bit. I wanna be able to play games and i'm wondering whether the support for 64 bit is there for that field as well.

Oh you will need over 4 gig memory to effectively run 7 64BIT.

I would go 64-bit all the way. but I am not a PC gamer, I prefer the console. I like the 64 bit because applications do run faster and it address more memory. I use a lot of memory hungry apps so 4 gigs just isnt enough for my me to work efficiently. Of course, the apps have to be 64-bit to take advantage of the increased memory.

I would go 32 bit I have never come across a version of 64 bit that supports my habits not XP, Vista and now Windows 7 I have tried running 64 bit with all those application and I'm almost positive that you WILL find a software that will not run properly with a 64 bit OS even though most of them support the ability to run 32 bit programs even going as far as to make a Program Files Folder strictly for 32 bit it does not apply for all 32 bit programs so of them won't even install one which comes to my is Zone Alarm but I have come across other software if you are a power user and you run and test a lot of different types and varieties of software I would not recommend a 64 bit OS to you but if you have already done your research and you know for a fact that everything that you are planning on getting has 64 bit support then to get the best performance out of them you can go 64 bit with Windows 7

One big big big big disadvantage of 64 bit is that while there are 64 bit browsers, there is no flash support. 32 bit browsers can work but bog down the machine a bit as most 32 bit apps do. Messenger is 32 bit. If you go 64 bit, don't use chrome. It slows down the machine eventhough your resources are still in the green. If you PC is forward thinking... i.e. supports more 4GB of maximum ram then go 64bit but you need at least 4GBs to run it properly due to memory allocation.

If you machine maxes at 4gb, then stick with 32. You won't be missing anything at the moment but you should be looking to an upgrade soon as 2010 is the year of the 64 bit. Cheers!
