Not really, I stumbled accross this. It's from the guy that wrote the code for the original mozilla/netscape (I heard, I haven't checked the site).

I know that i cannot compete in this discussion, however i must tell you this, java is playing a very big role in web development , and i hope that you don't think of java as a simple applet builder anymore .
Java at my company is used as application servers for products like :
    http://www.concierge.com/
    www.style.com
    www.epicurious.com
IBM markets and promotes it websphere product which centers around java
i am willing bet that more mid to large companies use java over anyother web devl. language. BEA centers there multimillion dollor weblogic product around java.
SAP uses Java and not to mention all the users of Verity which relies on java.
We just decided to utilize tomcat in a new product that we will be deploying soon[very large].
I only have one problem with it, and that is even though the speed of the JVM has improved i will always prefer a compiled program to an interpreted one.
so this is just my two cents VBa/ASP is a joke , not because it is poorly developed , but because it is Winblows only. PHP is cool, but the cost of the zend tools that we would need to provide the stability, code security and performance are just too expensive. Perl and mod_perl is a memory hog so it is kept for use on small cgi's in my company. .Net will not float since not Oracle will not promote it , Sun will make sure it runs slower than Java when executed on Solaris and since microsoft hates Linux it will be sure mono is never 100% compatable with Sql server or their .Net/C# implementation.I don't know of coldfusion but i bet php is beating it badly.
So Java rocks, when coding is done right, and you are using stable jdbc drivers [older jdbc driver for postgresql had serious bugs, oracle was always cool], but get alot of ram. php need ram and cpu [or if you have the money by zend compiler]. however i think these are going to be the major players in the web application market.
2 .5 years ago i would tell you to never place JAVA application servers on my network and servers, but i must say after seeing it perform over the last year , i am impressed.

http://pointless to post another - get a life...

You can find these aticles and comments anywhere on the net... to refer to them as evidence behind your language supporting arguement is pointless... - everything has its flaws and problems - many people will have their preferences - its what works for you... - until you can post a flaw in another language and how you have gotn around it by using php [with evidence] - then your post may develop some form of consideration in others.. soooo until then.......... :-X

My post was only re-enforcing my earlier claims, that JAVA is flawed more than people think in it's syntax structure.

I didn't post a work around in PHP because there is no such problem in PHP.

People will say that it's to enforce it's portability but I say many other languages boast that feature without tying your hands. Why can't JAVA?

;D Cant answer that one, Java has a fair amount of draw backs... but i guess thats the cost of the control methods they've tried to place in it...
