Support them... yeah right, once they realize you have it, its more responsibilities and the same pay. I dont think any jamaican employer would shell out money towards certification

So nobody's employer sends them on IT training eg. Windows 2000 or SQL Server, or Cisco?

Those count as certification courses...since they usually are modelled after the curriculum for certifications.

Three or four years ago, my current boss at the time did start a program within the company to encourage us to pursue our certs. In fact one of our techs did get his Comptia+. Our boss would pay for the courses and exams, but he would withold end of year bonuses to the individual(s) that were on this program. I did the Cisco Remote Access course and exams.

In jamaica i realize that alot of empoyers may want their employees to get certified, however at the same time they are not wiling to pay what the weight that the certification may carry.

Also I have found that their are a quite a few employers are not aware of the of the "value" that one gets from being certified and how this is a benefit to the organization.
