To be fair, we doing this first come, first serve. That's how we did it for the GMail invites. Here is the current persons next in line for an invite:

And I have installed Messenger Beta 8.0 and have it up and running. Haven't checked out everything yet, but it looks cool. Think we can start a thread to discuss the beta version.
