Well the job description is Networking so I would say CCNP

What is the nature of the business? You've just indicated some of the infrastructure which the business would depend on, but not the nature of the business itself.Originally Posted by Nastrodamus
To run a business, you need a competent business person. A person trained in business has an advantage in this regard (but remember, qualifications alone do not guarantee competence). So if you want a person to run a business, you'd more likely be better off with a business person - in this case, the MBA qualified person.
In the course of establishing the business, the skills of a project manager may be needed in setting up aspects of the business. For this reason, you'll find that many startup companies tend to have CEOs or Managing Directors who are more geared towards building and growing the business than those companies who have been around a bit longer, and would have leaders more oriented toward keeping things running in steady state. Business leaders change with time, because companies go through different phases. So in one phase, the company may be very much in "project mode" and project management skills are needed at the top. In other phases of the companies life, they may need more focus on governance, or financial management, and would seek out leadership with those skills.
Interesting question Making a lot of asumptions about your business scenario, I'd pick option (c) the MBA. Here's why:Originally Posted by Nastrodamus
Option (a) is overshadowed by (c) so that rules it out. A good MBA will more than likely employ the right resources to get the jobs done, and that would include a PMP and CCNP if needed, but it less likely that a person with option (b) as is would have the business-sense to strategically position the company because they're too much of a specialist.

Maybe I am biased as I know so many MBA's that don't worth squat (and to think I should be starting mine soon ).
All the PMP's I know are in very high positions...and are HIGHLY EFFICIENT. Trust me they know how to work.
Ah well... I still think that its an evolving field.
Free Thinkers are those who are willing to use their minds without fearing to understand things that clash with their own customs, beliefs for privileges. This state of mind is not common, but it is essential for right thinking; where it is absent, discussion is apt to become worse than useless.
Ahh PMP...funny this should come up I just got some training material on this, it seems more specific to IT then Gerneral Management.
@Nas
I would go with B...reasons...this job does'nt really sound much like a "management skilled" position, meaning it sound more like you need some one to setup and maybe manage that network infrastruture...if that is the case how much management skills do u really need?
CompTIA A+ Certified
MCTS - Microsoft Certified Technical Specialist - Server Virtualization
MCSA - Microsoft Certified System Administrator - Messaging
It wasn't me!...........okay it was but you have no right to assume!!
Hold on, don't get the impression that I rate the MBA over a PMP in all instances. Nope. In the scenario you painted I selected the MBA because the business requires general management skills. A network infrastructure albeit well designed and built is useless without a business strategy and plans to harness the technology. The MBA is the best choice to get that done while the PMP (option B) may be the best to manage the infrastructure project.Originally Posted by Nastrodamus
Another thing, when comparing an MBA vs PMP (not apples with apples) it all boils down to the individuals with the qualifications/certs. Like Nas, I know persons with MBA not worth squat, so it all comes down to the individual. Best suggestion for anyone, do them both

PMP aim to deliver projects witin time and budget. I think one a the problems is that the PMP is geared as a IT resoruce but as has been said before. Many companies have need for project managers for all types of things. I would discount the effectiveness of persons trained as such as i find that good project managers know how to:
- Manage people, process and resources
- Manage risk
- Engage stake holders at all levels.
- Manage Relationships.
You will find that PMP are good operations managers as the understand the need to maximise effort and resources. a PMP and MBA complement each other actually, i think as sucessful business professionals must posses some of the stuff highlighted above.
Heroes to Mentors -
Actually, people would say that a Project+ cert is more IT-focused than a PMP cert.

In my Opinion Project Management is the hottest skill right now in Jamaica. A lot of the big companies (NCB for instance) are going this route of having a department of project managers to manage the organization's projects.
Project Management differs greatly from General Management as Project Managers are usually skilled in a particular area or areas (for instance you may have a project manager for the High-Way 2000 project who would would have some experience of road construction, a project manager to launch a new banking system who have at least have some idea of Information Technology)
Trust me based on what I am seeing, Project Management is the easist way for individuals to get into big companies in the high ranks.

On top of this, Project + is cheaper and easier to attain than PMP.Originally Posted by Chris
