This state of mind is not common, but it is essential for right thinking; where it is absent, discussion is apt to become worse than useless.

Personally I don't see the MCA so high in the list, if making the list at all. Especially with that hefty price tag.

For Red Hat to be at the top now and at number 5 last year could be a sign of its evolution. I like Linux but I do not follow its news.

    1) Its relatively new from MS so it must be there, and 2) the pay in that role is high.
But still, it is way out of my reach for now $$$ .

I don't want to bash the list, but the only cert there that can IMHO escalate you to senior management is the PMP. The others are nice when you're moving through the technical ranks, but when you need advanced (and vendor-neutral) certs for senior management positions then the PMP in the list is the way to go

Agreed Chris from a Management perspective of sorts. However, PMP does not highlight any form of technical prowess nor does it equipment you with the necessities for a post of say IT Operations Manager.

It all depends on experience and previous qualifications. In addition your career goal is important. Not because a cert maybe hot will mean its good for what you want to do.

Once you map out your career path, then you will have to decide which certification will complement your goals.

There are several certifications on the market now, so hot others not....Security will continue to be a big focus area for 2006 and beyond.

Dont just get the certification because others are doing it...Have a purpose for yourself...
