Default Sony DRM using rootkit technology

The entire experience was frustrating and irritating. Not only had Sony put software on my system that uses techniques commonly used by malware to mask its presence, the software is poorly written and provides no means for uninstall. Worse, most users that stumble across the cloaked files with a RKR scan will cripple their computer if they attempt the obvious step of deleting the cloaked files.

seriously, i have a laptop here which gets bsod at startup becasue of areis.sys which i a driver installed by sonys rootkit, i went to the website for the uninstaller and all now them no send it, now this damn thing only work in safe mode,or by pressing delete before windows starts.
the only way to fix the bsod was to install the service pack that first 4 internet released.
seriously im switching to linux just because of this crap.

    Microsoft has now intervened:

    Microsoft will wipe Sony's 'rootkit'
    http://news.com.com/Microsoft+will+w...3-5949041.html
Microsoft will update its security tools to detect and remove part of the copy protection tools installed on PCs when some music CDs are played.

The Redmond, Wash., software maker has determined that the "rootkit" piece of the XCP software on some Sony BMG Music Entertainment CDs can pose a security risk to Windows PCs, according to a posting Saturday to a Microsoft corporate Web log.

Sony's removal tool "cure" is worse than the "infection"
