a friend of mine just got it right after i told him to shutdown his firewall cause he wanted to connect to irc . he probably thinks that i sent him a worm.

Re:major warning!!! web attack in progress
but wasnt i told today that the firewall offers no protection. i asked the person to explain but i havent gotten a response yet.
i thought a firewall would be enough to stop this worm from initially infecting ur system.
and that is highly coincidental that ur fren got the worm right after utold him to disable his firewall. but everybody is getting this worm now, i have gotten tons of calls from frenz asking what is the problem.

Our whole network is currently flooded with W32Blaster aka Lovran virus. Talk about working overtime tonight >
In addition to getting the latest updates from McAfee,
we had to patch all the W2k machines here with the RPC patch from M$....
read about it and get links to the various patches for this vulnerabilty here:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com...tent/8205.html
Of course, my bredrens and I just shook our heads and smiled when everyone around us started screaming in chaos, we are running linux ;D
But....still, It's amazing the rate at which virus is being released nowadays.

Thank God for NAV Corp Ed........
Updated Virus Defs and Performed Network Sweep...........
All I can say now is I told y'all so :P :P

Re:major warning!!! web attack in progress
now if you had sygate, you wouldnt have to worry about individual ports....you just do a block all and have the apps you use do a 'ask'.
everytime something tries to get out, up pops the ask box which then requires you to tell it what to do... ;D
it will even note if there is a change in the file/proggy from the last instance and flag it up....nice innit. ;D
