No One is "immuned" from viruses - you just have to be careful. My suggestions are:

    1. Avoid IE. Use a safe browser like Firefox or Opera- My personal favorite is Opera 8 because it is fast, easy and bundles your browsing in multipages and your mail in one browser.

    2. Download CCleaner and use it often - a free small program that is easy to use, very effective and spyware free.

    3. Get ZoneAlarm with antivirus. Such a good antivirus program with an excellent firewall

    4. Get Spybot

    5. Get Ad-Aware

And I also like to have TuneUp Untilies because it cleans traces in registry well and also optimizes your windows.

Why avoid IE? No browser is safer than the other, just a matter of time before people start finding flaws in other browsers. Adware can be executed from any broswer. What the user needs is\are software(s) to counteract that and watch the sites that he\she visits or is going to.

    That's my $1.50

by reading all the posts in this thread i therefore conclude that effectively maintaining your system(as soon as you start browsing the net) not only takes a lot of work, but also the wisdom gained from all those bad experiences....i know i had a few...had to format a couple a times

IE deposits Exploits on your system and according to Spybot and Hijack This can be hard to remove. Here's a qoute from Spypot re: IE: "Nearly all IE toolbars have something in common: they want to make the web easier for you. Sadly, to tailor their information to your needs, they need to collect data about you; and most privacy statements are unclear about how they do use this data beside sending you what they think is what you want. Huh ? IE and IE Toolbars are two different pieces of poogies. IE is the browser while IE Toolbar is a third-party attachment. Just like how there are toolbars for IE, there are toolbars for other web browsers. Don't mix the two up they are totally different.
