Red face XP Start Menu has No Icons

I can't seem to remember when this problem started but it was after a clear the Most Often Used Program List. Now there are no programs that are being stored in this list. No matter how many times i open a program...the list stays empty. When i right click the area that the list suppose to come up, i only see properties.

I have now reduced the Recently Used Program Lists to 0 so i don't have to look at the big empty space.

I have XP SP1 + Style XP. I have also tried changing the visual style to see if it has any affect but it doesn't.

No spyware/malware/trojan/virus present on system to date.

I can still "Pin Item to Start Menu"

    Any help appreciated.

did you use any kind of optimizers or regedits to turn off user tracking? if you did then you'll have to re-enable user tracking and increase the number of most often used programs, reboot and then you should see the list again after opening a few programs.

    User Tracking...interesting
Maybe Ad-Aware SE Pro did something but i have run Ad-ware checks all the time so i don't think that it could have done something. But i will have to check in its quarantine to see what was taken off the last time. Maybe an updated defintion messes with the Windows Start Menu.

Will do when i reach home. Any other suggestions??

    IT WORKED!!

I found out that the culprit was XP Smoker. Its a tweaking program for Windows XP. When you run it you can click on "Recommend" for it to scan your system and then it will recommend some settings.

I didn't realise that it had "Disable User Tracking" as one of the item so it back to normal now.
