    Question Jamaica Eye Setup

Wah Gwan TechJa! Its been a minute.

I have a Swann DVR camera system that I want to add to the Jamaica Eye Network. Does anyone have experience adding a system to their network?

Nope. But if you have a public facing system I assume it's a matter of providing access to the cameras that are public. The ones internal may not be required - I don't know how it works.

Good question, what does it take (technically) to connect a camera to the system. Also, once you provide the Jamaica Eye team with your interest to connect your camera to the network they should provide you with guidance on how to connect. Curious to hear what the reply is.

Once you have your system setup it should be a matter of providing a login for them.

But come to think of it, you might have to isolate/seperate the camera that you're giving them access to, from your internal facing cameras network.
I'm not sure if you can provide a login just for 1 single individual camera or create a login that only has access to that 1 camera. Yeah, the latter might be the option to go.

I believe once you sign up on their website, someone will be able to assist you on the technical aspects on giving them access.

That's the thing. Each camera system is setup differently. Some may not allow multiple logins. Some are individual cameras with no NVR/DVR.

If the NVR/DVR supports secondary logins then you can designate access to specific camera/s.

Some of the systems that are phone/IP only devices will allow multiple logins. Some of them require signup with the vendor, but others as well only allow access/viewing by ONE app/person at a time.

    So again - it depends.

@Khat Yes. Front view from yard facing public road.

@Chris I have filled out the form online but haven't received a response.. so I asked here..

@Arch_Angel Based on the info they are requesting. I want to know, How they connect when I provide my local ip address for the dvr? And yes the dvr will provide access to the other cameras.

I think that's why they would provide a specific list of devices that they would support. Those that can support the feature of allowing you to provide a seperate login for the camera/s you giving them access to.

@BUBBA how long ago you filled out the form?

How they connect when I provide my local ip address for the dvr?
More than likely they asking you for the public facing IP address for the camera. The local IP address won't do much for them to connect to it.

Since http://www.cmyip.com is down you have other choices available. http://www.ipchicken.com now redirects to http://myip.expert so that's an option. Even http://www.whatismyip.com now redirects to http://myip.expert so I guess that's what you'll have to use. Since I use things like that for my own I've added it to my own website for personal usage. May make it public later on.

The Swann manual shows that you can allow access to other users with some controls. The website seems down so I'm going off an older model manual. Link to that manual can be found here: https://carlosthomas.net/yourls/techja - just select the folder.

@AA - bear in mind that some DVRs use NAT through their manufacturer site to get access to the cameras. With the Swann site down I'm not sure, but maybe it makes a direct link with the device using some other means.

Considering that FLOW is using CGNAT and hasn't switched over to IPv6 as yet - or at least not from what I've seen - I'm wondering how they're going to address this issue if more people decide to go with the Jamaica Eye thing.

    *EDIT - CORRECTION TO ABOVE*
The Swann site seems to be up. I just did a noobish thing and tried to click it from a search result instead of trying the main page. Apparently that result linked to some old URL and the correct one is: https://www.swann.com/us/ - so my getting the older manual was based on that. Let me try and get the current one and see...

Nope. The camera models are - for example - SONVK-1686816FB. So looking for an "IP100" doesn't give any results. You'd need to provide the exact model so we can find the manual and check the general operation from that.

Interested in seeing your progress with this.

I’ve yet to install a surveillance system and was considering the integration with Jamaica Eye.

What I’m really interested in is how it affects bandwidth when in use.

Shouldn't have any adverse effects. They should only be accessing if there's an incident or if they need to monitor an area. I doubt they'll be monitoring ALL of the provided cameras - so it may be on an as needed basis.

Your only issue may be if they're accessing without notification while you're doing something. Then it's a matter of traffic priority.
