    Question NAS (Network Attached Storage)

    Has anyone had experience with NAS's? Im looking to add one to the network at home. New router on the way https://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...9SIADYY6CT7608. So im looking to make full use of it. The external hard drives are filling up too. Any advice or suggestions would be appreicated.

    You have a couple of options.
    1. you could plug a USB drive into the router and share on the home network
    2. you could buy a NAS
    3. if you have an old PC you could build your own NAS

    What type of info are you looking for?

    As an addendum to that list, I'd ask if you want to do anything else with it as that will help determine which way you want to go.

    Modern NAS boxes are essentially mini application servers that can do other things apart from just serving up files. Acting as a media server is probably the most popular side-job but but they can also do things like run Radius servers (useful if you want to kick your WiFi security up a notch) and BitTorrent clients... you know, for downloading Linux distros

    Well I'm looking to see which direction would suit me best, I really wanted to hear what setups ppl have. How it performs and the use case.

    1. Trying to move away from those. Need redundancy so whatever set up i end up with id like to have at least RAID 1. Ideally RAID 10.
    2. This might seem to be my best option starting out.
    3. Long term I'd like to get here. Running like FreeNAS.

    @Gouchman

    Ive considered that, but as I've grown older most of the media consumption ends up from YouTube and Spotify. so I dont think It'd end up bring used for much more than back up. As for torrenting I've retired from it as of late
