    Default My first gaming Rig

Hello I'm planning on building a gaming PC this summer and am currently thinking of going Ryzen, I've put together a part list and would like your feedback or recommendations to help me make a decision. This machine will not only be used for gaming but I'm planning on running VMs and maybe do some video editing and rendering. I also like running multiple programs at once hence why i chose Ryzen but i want to hear what the TJ community has to say. My Budget is 1200 and the part list is as follows:

    PCPartPicker part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/46Nvcc
    Price breakdown by merchant: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/46Nvcc/by_merchant/

    CPU: AMD RYZEN 7 1700 3.0GHz 8-Core Processor ($319.75 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: MSI B350 TOMAHAWK ATX AM4 Motherboard ($108.99 @ SuperBiiz)
    Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory ($119.88 @ OutletPC)
    Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($93.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($48.49 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Video Card ($409.30 @ Amazon)
    Total: $1100.40

Seems like a solid build and some things should come down in price a lil bit by the summer. What resolution screen will you be using?

I plan on buying a 1080p display which i know a 1070 is probably overkill for but i don't plan on upgrading anytime soon so i want something that will be good for a few years.

Since your board supports nvme doesnt make sense stick with sata

spending $24 more for 1570 MBps read speed is worth it

Build Looks solid to me. but based on benches released today the 1600x offers much more performance per $ compared to the 1700. Unless you plan to do heavy multi threaded tasks i'd say get a Ryzen 5 chip and save your money or spend on a higher capacity ssd

Sata based Evos top out at about 550 MB/s. some of their 960 Evo m.2 drives go up to 3500 MB/s

There isn't that significance of a difference between the 850 evo and an nvme equivalent that justifies the higher price point and less storage to tell you the truth. Specially in games where the load times might just be few seconds or no difference at all. Up to you though if you got the budget.

lol well as long as my pc boots up fast thats all i care about cause i will be using the HDD to store majority of my files. I guess i can always buy storage later on when the really good ones come down in price.

What do you guys think about the Ryzen 1600 vs the 1600x. The 1600 comes with a stock cooler but if i buy the 1600x i will need to buy a cooler which will probably bring the price to over 300 if i get a decent cooler
