The original stock cooler; I think the problem is the thermal paste worn-out because I have never re-applied it after all these years. I just got a new case and a Cryorig H7 but I haven't changed out yet because I can't afford any downtime right now.

Hmm i have no idea how to change that either pezz. A bredren a mine has a 6700k and says it did 1:10s. I should let him run it again and post a screenshot as looking at your system now with way more threads than his i would think your system would do better than the 6700k

i7 6700k is 4.00ghz base and 4.2ghz boost. While my xeon is 2.4ghz. So almost 2ghz frequency difference.

    It comes down to clockspeed.

Here is Zen vs i7 6700k vs FX 9590

Next CPU upgrade for sure. Maybe late 2017. Will be nice having good IPC processor with more than 4 cores finally.

Well so far I've seen Tech news for AMD Zen going up to 5ghz overclock on air cooling. If this is true then AMD has a winner here if the temps are good:

Intel on the other hand has their Kaby Lake 7700K chip coming out soon and someone overclocked it to 7ghz, but it had to be liquid cooled and some cores disabled:

Now it's just down to the pricing of these processors because both are looking really promising.

Did the Blender test. Looks like it's almost time for me to upgrade my processor. Then again think I'll just build a second system:
