    Default Antivirus Boot USB

It appears as if one of my computers has been infected. It reboots after about a minute of up time. It is running Windows XP. The data is backed up.

Avast is on the computer. I created an Avast boot USB on another computer. The computer will stay up until I try to scan it.

Which antivirus boot USB would you recommend?

Have you eliminated hardware issues? Also try USB booting with a Linux Live distro to see if it stays up and running.

I use a thing called "autoruns" to delete stuff out of my registry. you can download it from microsoft's site. It allows you to delete boot-up stuff

Since you have Avast already installed on your PC you can also try schedule an Avast Boot Time scan that scans your computer before its started, normally the boot time scans catches undetected infections before the PC starts-up.

It appears to be a hardware issue. When I boot up in Ubuntu from a usb, I get an error once I click on an icon. It stays up until then.

The computer is old so I am likely to replace rather than repair.

    Thanks for the replies.

Get UBCD. Do a memory test. Do a hard drive SMART test. If it's not any of those, try to get a PSU tester and check your PSU. Check if the CPU is overheating etc. etc.

If you've already isolated the problem the I guess it's replacement.
Knowing the solution doesn't mean knowing the method. Yet answering correctly and regurgitation are considered "learning" and "knowledge".
