It has done me well and still doing me well (AMD 8320, 990FX Motherboard, DDR3)
My System usage: software development, game development, 75+ chrome tabs open at once, VMs and gaming. intel's i5 can never handle that much load at once. So yeah i5 was never in the picture for me. AMD 8 cores are still great for these purposes.
I like lots of cores and right now Intel is the only option until AMD Zen releases early next year.
So my new system consist of x99 Motherboard, 1x xeon 6c/12t cpu, 16GB DDR4, Fury X and 1000w psu. I just might get a SSD not sure.
How much did it cost? You would be surprised how cost effective this is. people just need to shop smart. I will reveal cost when I post pics

How much ram were you using with the AMD system and what CPU load were you getting running games with the fury X. having looked at xeon CPU's i think they're a better option than i5's and i7's, so me rate the fact that you went with one.
You should get an ssd, Even if it's just for windows and a few programs.
