Still wouldn't make sense.. if chats are end-to-end encrypted they should be 100% between user and user... WhatsApp or Facebook should have no access.

It cant be from user to user. Messages have to be stored somewhere then retrieved.

They can be stored encrypted, I am sure that is how they store the messages on the servers.

When companies talk about security I don't take them seriously. False sense of security is worse than no security imo.

If the "end" you send data to is compromised then it doesn't really matter now does it? They could always take the info at the open end and ship it off to where ever they choose in a separate channel. Especially since both ends are controlled by the whatsapp app. And I think this is another reason why they dropped Blackberry support because the blackberry API allows users to easily block contact leeching (app permissions recently added into Android but I'm not sure how effective they are).

Eitherway it won't matter because 90% of the users do not care. I see whatsapp chain letters going around telling people to uncheck the share info in the settings. Some will do it but most will ignore it.

When I say user to user I mean only the users should be able to see the message... even if it's stored on WhatsApp's servers it should be encrypted and have no use to them..

But as you said false sense of security, I know there is always a backdoor so either way if you plotting to kidnap the president I wouldn't discuss that on any form of messenger lol

If they encrypt it, then they can also decrypt it

Whats gonna kill WhatsApp??? every time something becomes popular something comes along and kills it..
Facebook kinda put themself in a position to always stay on-top by buying out anything that pops..

From I see msn messenger and BBM fail I know nothing is safe, to me feature wise WhatsApp is boring, it's just convenient that's about it.

Is there or can there be another messenger that simply uses your #? I'm until then how can anything compete with whatsapp

All it needs now is video calling, which will come soon
