oh zeen, me too. i actually stopped using kazaa at the first release of kazaa lite. and i have experienced the looping mp3 file. meaning the chorus will play and then repeat itself forever. if thats the riaa, thats really messed up. it leaves me to wonder if the age of downloading mp3's is over :'( i also wonder if avi's are next to follow, since the movie industry will follow in the riaa footsteps next. i have to admit though that this method taken by the riaa is rather vindictive but smart.( letting people download what they think is a complete song, only to discover that it is just a looping of the chorus) and that sucks, they r sticking it to us peer 2 peer users. but hopefully p2p will survive for a few more years to come. but have u guys ever wondered about what it would be like if p2p networks were to be shutdown altogether ??? that would be sad.

Not being able to download a song, new software, a good movie, tutorials and other reading materials, good hard to find pics etc....... no doubt it will happen one day :'( :'(

    Rest assured <<MiTcHiE>>

    • It's not really the RIAA that is responsible for the looping MP3's. It's radio stations. They are the ones responsible for allowing free download 'samples' of MP3's. However, the RIAA only acted through the court to implement this legislation, because...
    • Peer to Peer networking is here to stay. They tried to shutdown all peer to peer networks but they can't. Shutting down Napster dealt a serious blow to the concept, but for every one network they shutdown, 10 more pop up. They simply don't have the resources to go after every single one of them. Besides, since Kazaa is the most downloaded program in the world, the advertising that keeps the software free, makes Sherman Networks (the people responsible for Kazaa) one of the richest companies in the world worth several billion US dollars! I hardly think the RIAA can tackle a media giant of that magnitude. So since the RIAA cannot fight the system, that is why...
    • Legislations can be passed to have online radio stations only provide looped MP3s. However, the MPAA is not as successful and may never be (unless the DVD format is deprecated). Since DVD is revolutionary technology that is here to stay for at least a few decades (maybe more), you can always expect to be able to download movies and music from these peer-to-peer networks. But the reason you get a lot of false positives on Kazaa is really because of...
    • The Rating system. The higher your rating on Kazaa, the more likely that your search hits will be from dedicated FTP servers with insane throughput. There are seeders on Kazaa with FTP servers on powerful OC-3 or OC-12 shells. But you will never get file hits to those servers unless your rating is something like 1000 (Supreme Being). To achieve high ratings on the Kazaa network, you have to have very popular files uploaded from your machine. The only way to do that is to make sure that you have files that everybody is looking for. The bigger the file, the higher your rating. The more uploads you facilitate, the faster your rating goes up. That explains why...
    • There are so many unscrupulous people on Kazaa who rename a large files to the name of a movie that just came out or an mp3 to a new song that hasn't been released on an album yet. Before Linkin Park's Meteora came out, I downloaded a LOT of rigged MP3's and many looped MP3's that were supposed to have been from their album. The only good mp3 I had before the album came out was their hit single "Somewhere I belong". However, after the album was officially released, I started to get a lot of good hits. I've since bought their CD since there were enough songs on it that I liked. The same thing happens with movies. When Star Wars Episode II came out, people were renaming several movies (including Japanese porno flicks) to "Star Wars - Attack of the Clones" just so that they will get a lot of people to download from them, hence improving their rating. That's why...
    • I only use Kazaa to listen to a tune that is either a hit single, a rare song, or an album that has already been in release for some time. I no longer download movies via Kazaa, as the system just cannot be trusted. Period. If there is a movie out that I want to know if I should get the DVD for, I use ShareReactor. But I no longer download movies for keeps sake. I buy all my favourite flicks on DVD.

I normally go into the "My SHared Folder" directory of Kazaa and drag and drop the *.dat file that is currently being downloaded onto winamp and play it to see if it loops too many times. Although when you download from multiple sources the songs jumps alot but if you knwo how the song flows then you will be able to tell if its the real songs or a loop.

Movies are a bit tricky. I normally copy the dat file and then rename the extension to the one shown in Kazaa and drag and drop into my Media Player 6 and with all my codecs installed I can watch the movie in part to see if its correct but I do this once a good amount of the file has been downloaded.

well, if u r using kazaa lite u can preview all movie files with a program that comes with it named avi preview.

is it just me but if i download 10 songs 8 or 9 of them are corrupted or loops. and all of this is happening of late. the movies i preview, since it would be a big waste of time to download it without previewing it first.

Xenocrates i am happy to see that u have alot of faith in p2p networks to survive. i was so desperate this mornign for a particular song i had to install winmx . thats how bad it has gotten.

and i dont understand y everybody is renaming files to get higher ratings, all they have to do is use kazaa lite which alwyas gives the user a rating of supreme being. go figure. and when they tally the amount of kazaa downloads, is kazaa lite included???? or is seen as an entirely different product???

i think i am going to stop using kazaa lite for music, its just too full of looped mp3s.
