Somebody correct me if I am wrong but isn't Kazza affiliated with the Gaim Network??

Gaim who basically is a distributed processing company..........Who uses your computer whenever it is supposedly idle............

Thats the main reason why I don't use Kazza anymore after I found out that piece of info........

PS -- Please correct me if I am wrong.......

oh yeah it is the most downloaded program now. thanks deakie. i dont use kazaa, i use the hacked version. kazaa lite. it has no ads, and a host of features that the unhacked version doesnt. it comes with no spyware unlike the unhacked version. trust me kazaa lite is the best. i hopes this helpes u Tech_Guru.

well, phoenix, before you go browsing the world of ftp. you need a program to do it. bit like a browser or more like a file manager type.
examples are cuteftp, bulletproof ftp and my fav, flashfxp.
they all basically do the same thing.

first, you gotta have the ip or named addy of the site you are going to connect to. then normally, you would put in the username and password acceptable by the site.
then you would connect and wait for the verification. ;D
once in, you can browse the directories just like in your file manager. of course, you can only browse the directories that you have permissions for. your proggy should have 2 windows within it. one showing your directories and the other, the sites directories. you just drag and drop firebird and yur away.

so...to let you try then.....why dont you download a demo...go here
    http://www.flashfxp.com/download.php
then set it up. dont worry its kosher and has a lil annoying thing that pops up until you decide to buy, but we are only trying it out k.
in the menu, you will see sites. there are companies that have stuff up their for the customers of their products. pick one and just connect. check it out and get a feel for it. be a tech and play....

there ya go...hope that helped you....... ;D

oh and btw, ftp is a protocol seperate to http. so in effect you will be connecting, usually, using a different protocol and port than you would a web browser. whereas http is concerned with text and graphics, ftp is more concerned with files. though, it must be said that both protocols can do what each other can but its a case of standards that it's the way it is now. :P

Is it just me or have you Kazza users noticed that recently the mp3 download section is plagued with corrupted files? >

I believe the RIAA is responsible for some of that.

I've been using Kazaa since napster fell and after morpheus. No virii ever, couple of corrupt files but thats just some jitters in the mp3 encoding. I only download music anyway and a couple of movies and I watched them before they reached a significant amount of space to know if they were true or not.

Gentlepeople, please note the following and note it carefully:

    1) Do not use Kazaa as it installs several SpyWare programs on your computer, some of which are hidden in memory. These programs open up TCP ports on your machine in the above 6666 port number range, allowing other spyware tools to be installed without your knowledge.

The problem gets worse, in that there are listening tools that are used on the network that "listen" for people who have open ports so that they can filter trojans into your machine via Kazaa. Furthermore, these spyware programs consume considerable amounts of processor time. So while Kazaa is up, you may notice a significant performance degrade in your other applications.

Alternative: Kazaa Lite - No spyware, no popups, no trojans, no open ports, nada ;D

    2) Corrupt MP3s' - An MPEG Layer 3 encoded audio file should not have glitches in its playback. If you've downloaded any such file, and you notice a glitch in the song, delete it immediately and conduct a thorough virus scan on your machine. Trojans are being hidden in MP3 files (mostly MP3 files since they are the most downloaded) to get into people's machines and have their personal info borne to the world. Two of the most prevalent trojan/virii are:

    i) w32.bugbear@mm - which has been recently upgraded to a category 4 threat

ii) w32.spybot.worm - which is the most common and most dangerous worm out there.

If your e-mail is being clogged with porn based spam, chances are that one of these two bastards (or one of their cousins) has been having it's way with your machine. Please ensure your virus scanner is up to date.

Additionally, the RIAA has not gotten the go-ahead to implant spyware into MP3's to spy on infringers of the copyright act since this would constitute a breach of the Internet Privacy act signed by Bill Clinton in 1995. What the court has done, for the RIAA, is to allow MP3's of main stream artists to be shared on the Kazaa network, but the MP3s' are looped for the first minute of the song for the full 3-5 minutes of the MP3, or the MP3's have stop gaps (periods of loong monotones or loong silence). This way, end users will not get the full MP3 to listen to for free. Ofcourse, people have already worked their way around that...

Furthermore, Kazaa, is not owned by GAIN, it is owned by Sherman Networks, which is an Australian based Internet Solutions company. They are Australia's equivalent of America Online. GAIN is a subsidiary network which is riding the waves that Kazaa has created. They are in joint partnership to reap the rewards of internet sales. Most of the spyware installed with Kazaa was created by GAIN networks.

Ofcourse, this spyware is not intentionally malicious. It merely serves marketing purposes and helps to keep Kazaa free. However, because of its sloppy programming, hackers have gone nuts using the loopholes it created to make short work of unsuspecting MP3 downers.

Xeno I have to tackle you on this one. I dont think an mp3 can contain a virus itself. But you can post your reply here:
