OK here's one for you ... why doesn't C&W offer regular GPRS for the 7100g?
Ever wanted to know something about the Blackberry but you don't quite know where to get the information? How about how the hiptop 2 works and what it can really do. Speak to someone who interacts with both on a daily basis. If I don't know it I can get the information in a relatively short period. Just an open space to allow any questions or comments from techs on my two favourite devices.

When you say regular GPRs what exactly do you mean? The devices in circulation are the 7280 and 7290... Therefore those are the only devices that the Blackberry server will allow activation from. Bear in mind that everything is hosted by Blackberry and only uses CW GPRS as a conduit. The device PINs are all keyed towards the 7290/80 and hence the imbedded support from them.Originally Posted by Chris

thanks, but maybe my question was a bit too previous so I'll wait a bit and see![]()

What do you mean by regular GPRS? Cause both phones use the GPRS to facilitate the enterprise servers- even though they pay a flat rate and not per kb.

what I was getting at was "regular" in the sense of available for both pre and post-paid accounts, but I understand the reason for it being the way it is with post-paid (flat rate) only.

You are something else you know that?Originally Posted by Chris
In all honesty gprs is not being charged as an individual component to blackberry customers. Just a flat rate for all the features that are supported. The 7100g which is scheduled to come out this month (which is subject to change, lots of things happening) will pretty much come with the same basic features that require a charge. As such then the flat fee should be the same. Not sure if there will be any additions just yet. If there is it can only be a good thing.

It would be unfair for a push email phone to have a service charge per kb. It would defeat the purpose of an always on connection to the blackberry or danger servers. They thought about doing the prepaid thing for hiptop2. I thought it was unwise... and so did others. It is thankfully not being offered.

Yup, can you imagine loosing all your credit for an email that you didn't want and was pushed to your phoneOriginally Posted by Profound

Happy they haven't done it either. I am eyeing that 7100g to be honest. Either that, p910 or Treo 650 (depending on how the currency runs too :d)

7100g, I'll ask them when they are bringing that one down. P910... Treo 650- all nice phones but you pay for kb. If you want Push you have to go Blackberry or Hiptop... until some other networks gets the drift.
