This is good, It has been standard in the US for years, so its good that Jamaica is following suit. The 876 area code is so unique to Jamaica, that its so hard to get use to this new area code 658. Thankfully the 876 area code will still be around. Really hope we stick to the implementation date though. We have a history of changing dates for implementation, case in point Number portability. This should not be a major issue for the vast majority of Jamaicans.

Lets take a bet as to whether they will meet the May 2018 implementation date.

iPhones already have been updated with the new area code.

It's only been 3 days since the NANP announced it...

That was quick, didnt know it would be activated so soon. I wonder if websites and other systems have been updated as yet?.

It isn't activated... more so the iOS's directory is probably synced with a server that pushes updates, kinda like their Timing server... Also funny to note, whenever I dial a 7 digit number, the phone automatically activated Dial Assist... Apple is on the ball! Takes all the work out of having to remind people to do 10 digit dialing.

Wouldn't this be a result of Carrier Setting update pushed by FLOW?

Nope... I think Apple maintains a lookup database what iPhones pull from for area codes and the like... They did push a carrier update however, in May, but it was to enable LTE on iPhones in Barbados.
