The dongle is what apple provides.. soon enough you'll see third parties offer direct cables..
They should have put 3 of those ports on the lappy.. regardless, good to know one port can give so much connectivity...

Not to mention it offers up to 10 Gbps transfer speeds..

Lol I tried not to smh when reading your post but it seems like a must.

It is no different form usb ports on a phone that can convert to anything.
It is actual a micro usb 3.1 port. 10GBgbps is a part of usb 3.1 spec. Nothing to do with Apple.

Hopefully this means next iphones and ipads will be usb.

I think this laptop is good for its Fan-lessness (if thats a word), Battery life and weight. Its just too bad that its 1.1Ghz Dual Core. I know OSX is very optimised but in this day and age thats just too slow. And the price is $1300/$1500.

There will never be USB on iPhones and iPads... Apple loves going proprietary.

Why is this so amazing that one port does everything? Do you see this as a design advantage or disadvantage?

Its an advantage. The disadvantage is that there is only one port on the New Mac Book. Without and adapter u cant use a wireed peripheral while charging. Apple is forcing everyone to go wireless. And their excuse is that they make plenty of other laptops with more than one ports (MacBook Pro, MacBook Air etc.)

Completely disagree. on a laptop having to use a dongle is a disadvantage anyway you look at it.

Having a dongle kills any elegance it has.

You cant even charge it while using the usb port.
