The after market cards are the best to overclock since they usually have much better coolers and thermal than the reference ones from Nvidia.

So anyways saw a video with one of Maxwells features showing off 4K gaming in 1080p mode:

I'm still wondering what they did really. I guess I should look at the more detailed reviews better instead of just checking out numbers. Always have this feeling they cut out some stuff. AMD problem is their GPU size smaller and has more stuff. Notice all them extra boxes. Even putting in the crossfire improvements probably added to the situation. Nvidia still using the bridges while AMD has better multiGPU performance and has removed the bridges. They might have to start putting out downsized chips or something. All speculation from me of course.

Yes you are right. AMd chips while smaller are more dense transistor wise as opposed to Nvidia chips which are physically bigger but less dense and have a lower clock. Also AMD has that 512 bit bus which runs quite hot. If they would strip away some Compute Functions and use the more standard 256 or 384 they would have a similar running card power/heat wise. But 512 bit bus is the future of GPUs esp since 5K monitors are now coming online.

This is a nice tech from Nvidia. I can see where AMD will be able to implement something similar as it kinda force gamers to buy a GPU that is more powerful than the resolution they game at.

its old tech. Something similar happens with supersampling and I see mention of downsampling. The effects can probably be same with Antialiasing with less impact on performance. Vaporware

seen gtx 780 on newegg for around $300 now. DirectCU II. I'm guessing supply of the gtx 970 will go up once stock is cleared of the old cards. i.e. they launched a batch and are holding on to most of them till stock is cleared... or just for a while.

R9 290 cards are now doing $299. Some nice ones too including the 290 tri-x and gigabyte windforce. The second hand ones must be low low now too. Its funny cause before the maxwell cards came out I was trying to bargain a 290x down to $300 from $400. The guy who has it on sale now dropped all the way to $325 and it still not selling. Same with r9 r290 cards I was trying to drop below $300. Was on the verge of buying a tri-x 290 for $255 but someone poached that sale. Bet he's trying to sell it now. Still have the cash I raised for GPU thanks to lame sellers.

I expected this to happen. It is the only way AMD can compete.

I got 1 of my R9 290 for $230 and the other for $250 so I didnt get burn lol.

I bet your light bill did though... oh right nvm forgot you don't have to worry about that stuff much.

Well anyways, those are some steep price cuts from AMD though. I hope they hurry and come out with their new video card line up's as those 900 series price keep going up and selling off .
