    It works on all numbers.
They have a global system step up now. Used to have problems last year with my digicel but the issue ironed out

Yup that's exactly what i am saying. I use to the Google Authenticator app for both my google accounts and my many outlook accounts.
And like i said you wont need internet to get the app working. it just works after you set it up with the bar code and its time based so i code is auto generated once another code expires, think its every 20 seconds.

UPDATE just tried it on another google account and it turns out you still have to enter your number first before you can use the different 2 step verification methods offered by Google. However i'm not sure if you can delete the number and still use the app once you pass that step.
Not that it would make a difference.

Holy smokes, it works! Just tried it again on google and I got the txt. Trust me when I tell you I been using the txt messaging feature for years till I stopped getting txt msgs a while back. Kept trying but didn't get any txt. But seems something has been finally fixed.

I guess no one saw my thread on Two-factor authentication

For all those who have androids instead of relying on texts why not use Google Authenticator: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ticator2&hl=en

Also Outlook.com and facebook use two-factor as well

Seeing that I use none of those devices , I thank you for the clarification

Yea you would not want that on your desktop it defeats its purpose. Unless you can turn the program into a self contained package exe and stick it in an encrypted vault oh i forgot that thinapps would work (aka virtualized applications)

Not a fan of 2 step authentication. So I don't use it. To me, it's just a way for them to get your mobile number, on top of everything else they have.

Soon here say, they need your SSID or drivers license # for 3 step authentication.
Or you home # or home address for "security" purposes.

I already practice safe browsing, use a secure 10 character password, use a unique password for every website and provide alternative email addresses for password retrieval.
Can't understand why I need to still provide more, to "protect" me.

    Bleh!

Google authentication doesn't use your phone number. it's an app. I point every thing to my gvoice #

I stated that in order to turn on 2 step verification you need to first enter your number and verify it.
thereafter you can choose to use the app once the settings is turn on.

    @Arch_Angel you are paranoid lol
SSID or drivers license # for 3 step authentication. By then they wont need those, would use "The Chip in Hand"
yahoo has my number from 2005, didn't know what i was doing when i was younger. they asked so i gave it to them.

I know. lol But not as paranoid as some others.
I only give as minimum personal information as needed to use any website. If they ask too much, I just don't use the site and move along.
