Well, media streaming, backup center, always on Bittorrent Sync Server for my files (similar to live mesh bypassing the cloud), download center, software and music storage and file sharing with family and select friends, oh and personal audio station (radio and music). While still being under 40W so will always be on and accessible.

Its a good investment and I am looking forward to using mine and getting it setup, the darn hard drives just need to go on sale now.
Thats a good idea. I am all for bypassing the cloud as much as possible.
Synology does allow u to create and install your own apps on the NAS http://www.synology.com/support/3rd_party_app_int.php its linux based.
Shots of hard drives added :-) currently testing each one by one for bad sectors before installing them in the NAS
My new Raid box runs rings around this... I built it using this case...
4 x Seagate 1.5TB on MR10i
Dual Gigabit Ethernet with Link Aggregation on my Cisco Switch...

^^^^ I take it you missed the whole point of why I bought the Synology instead of building my own NAS.
Unless that can do everything I need while keeping these numbers:
Give or take a few watts, then your RaidBox holds no benefit to me. I could have easily built a home NAS, but for what I wanted it would be overkill and use more power than needed to complete the tasks that I want to perform.Power Consumption : 35.62W (Access); 13.09W (HDD Hibernation); 3.37W (System Hibernation);

The Synology uses little to no power so too does my box but each hard drive uses about 10-15 watts.... read the fine print yound padewan.... The power consumption is without hard drives....
